consciously unconscious

consciously unconscious, his modus operandi
knowledge of injustice and inequality,
and all world’s ills stored in envelope
filed in crimson steal lockbox, in mind’s cellar
garnet key to box stored in mind’s attic
distance between box and key intentional
separation requires minimal mental effort
three empty indigo floors fill remaining space
azure walls, free to be filled with mind numbing distractions
if ever garnet meets crimson, he would awaken
awareness calling him to action
except…he wants no part of revolt or rebellion
he lives comfortably in home of conscious unconsciousness
who wouldn’t?
it sits on beautiful jade landscaped avenue
in flawless emerald subdivision
in the city that is…the Matrix

  1. This is great! Lived unconsciously for a LONG time. I agree it is a call to action once conscious. Don’t know how some choose to do nothing. Must say that at some point if the choice is not made personally – it will be made for them. We are evolving and no matter how hard we try to ignore the injustices and inequalities around us one way or another we will come face to face with them in a manner that we cannot ignore.

  2. Pullin’ the trigger.
    Shooting another human.
    He had family too.

    “Fighting for freedom”
    Supposedly that’s the job.
    He or I must die.

    That is what is said.
    But reality it’s not.
    Merely a blue pill.

    Uncle Sam Wants Me!
    I’m a political tool.
    Sent out to destroy.

    Getting paid to kill
    Others who struggle like me
    Yet thinking I’m right.

    The word I think of
    Means what a catastrophe.
    Oh what a Nakba!

    Demanding much love
When I return to my home
    It’s a tragedy.

    Consciously making
    A decision to oppress
    The world around me.

    All of this to gain
    Too much respect and money
    Serving my country

    Really, who am I?
    It is very obvious see
    Me=Army Solider

  3. “he lives comfortably in home of conscious unconsciousness” This line sets it off for me. He think it’s ok to not Know. Like a flame in front of mute eyes.

  4. so many choose to live behind guise of “ignorance is bliss” but really it shows that so many are complacent and not enough will really “throw down” when the revolution comes. i love that you chose to write about this.

  5. in response to the above comment (Dean), the revolution is already here. every day is a battle. some choose to fight. others choose to look sideways. hence the title of this poem “consciously unconscious.”

  6. all world’s ills stored in envelope
filed in crimson steal lockbox, in mind’s cellar
garnet key to box stored in mind’s attic
distance between box and key intentional
separation requires minimal mental effort… HEAVY!! I loved this piece

  7. “consciously unconscious” speaks volume. My goal in this life is for garnet and crimson to connect.

    From Crazy, by Gnarls Barkley:

“And when you’re out there without care
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn’t because I didn’t know enough
    I just knew too much”

    Peace. Yahya
