Angela Marquez writes: “My Black Man”

Black and beautiful
Tall? No but he towers most men’s souls
Strong enough to build my hopes
Yet, weak enough to crumble at a tear
Immeasurable love of life
And life in me he inspires

Deep, rather intelligent young man
Yet, there is no limit to furthering his knowledge
Waves no banner, yet you know he inspires respect.

Oh, that I may praise his soul
He lifts me without knowledge
I’d kiss the ground he stands on
To him I’m bound
For it’s a hellified ground he treads.

Wouldn’t it be heavenly to take off?
Soar when surroundings get to hectic
If he were a man of means
Life would have no hold
For soar he must
Loner, yet my greatest companion
Great that I’d enjoy it forever.

  2. this is so amazingly beautiful and invokes as well as evokes love and liberty. my favorite line is:
If he were a man of means
    Life would have no hold
    For soar he must
    Loner, yet my greatest companion
Great that I’d enjoy it forever.
